Hello and thank you for joining us for this article, which is part of our series of articles on industries in Latin America (“LatAm”) that are particularly appealing for foreign investors.

In our previous articles, we have discussed the natural resources, agriculture, manufacturing, services, energy, and technology sectors in the region. Today, we are focusing on the construction sector, which is poised for significant growth in several countries across the respective region.

So, let us take a closer look at the reasons why the construction sector in LatAm is worth your attention as an investor.

The construction sector in LatAm has been a key driver of economic growth in the region, and has been drawing the attention of (foreign) investors for many years. With a large and constantly growing population, a rising middle class, and an increasing call for modern infrastructure, the construction sector in the region represents an opportunity for investors looking to broaden their investment portfolio, which should not be dismissed.

The first reason for the construction sector in the region being worth your consideration as an investor is the compelling infrastructure deficit existing across the region. According to the Inter-American Development Bank, the infrastructure shortfall in LatAm is approximately $150 billion annually. Several countries in LatAm lack adequate infrastructure, including but not limited to roads, ports and airports. The latter generates a high demand for investment in construction and infrastructure projects, presenting opportunities for investors to fund and profit from these projects.

An additional reason to consider investing in the construction sector in LatAm is the region’s demographic picture. LatAm has a gigantic consumer market with more than 650 million people, making it one of the largest worldwide. Furthermore, the region’s middle class is rapidly growing (as we have thoroughly discussed in one of our previous articles), creating an increased call for infrastructure. This demographic trend is projected to continue in the years to come, providing investors with long-term opportunities for growth.

Additionally, the respective sector in the region is also backed by favorable government policies and initiatives with the objective to advocate investment in infrastructure. Several LatAm governments have instituted public-private partnerships (PPPs) to finance and develop infrastructure projects. The latter has created a more certain and predictable investment climate for investors, significantly lowering exposure and boosting the allure of the sector.

Last but not least, the region’s abundance of natural resources is another reason making investing in LatAm’s construction industry so alluring. The region’s natural resources can be utilized in the implementation of infrastructure projects, reducing the cost of materials and incrementing the profitability of investments.

As with any investment, investing in the construction sector in the region entails certain challenges and risks. As we have previously discussed in our articles, investors can minimize their exposure to these challenges and risks by carefully planning and performing due diligence, as well as by working with reliable partners. Despite the risks, the possibilities of great returns on investment in LatAm’s construction sector remain significant.

In conclusion, the construction sector in LatAm presents a promising investment opportunity for those looking to broaden their portfolio and gain exposure to a region with powerful growth potential.

We hope that this series of articles on key industries in LatAm that are particularly attractive and promising for foreign investment has been informative and helpful.
